THE KILLERS were forced to perform impromptu stand-up comedy last night when singer BRANDON FLOWERS' keyboard was hit by a flying pint of beer (January 21).
During the band's headlining set at the Glasgow Academy on the ShockWaves NME Awards Tour 2005, Flowers announced to the crowd that the group would have to take a ten minute break while the instrument dried out.
Drummer Ronnie Vannucci then appeared onstage to rapturous applause and treated the crowd to a joke.
He said: "A man has just moved into a new house when the guy from next door calls around. 'I was just wondering if you'd like to come to a party at mine tonight,' he says,'thereâ'll be lots of drinking, fighting and f*cking'
'Oh, sure. What should I wear?'
'Anything you want. It'll just be you and me.'"
The night also saw The Killers debut two new songs including 'Sweet Touch'.
Earlier in the day, the band bought Glasgow's HMV to a standstill during a signing session.
Security were forced to clear two aisles as fans who hadn't managed to get wristbands clamoured to get a glimpse of the band.
Four hundred fans - who had queued from as early as 7am to get passes for the appearance - formed a line which stretched out of the shop and onto the street.
Speaking to NME.COM afterwards, Vannucci said: "It was pretty amazing seeing that many people queuing up to see us. And pretty tiring having to sign that many autographs!"
The ShockWaves NME Awards Tour 2005 - also featuring The Futureheads, Bloc Party and Kaiser Chiefs tears into Nottingham's Rock City tomorrow night (January 22).
